The OTRA promotes the sport of team roping by providing a format for roping families in an enjoyable, competitive environment. The OTRA is an independent corporation. Different Districts represent the OTRA throughout Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. The OTRA Finals event is held annually in July in Abilene, TX. The OTRA was founded in 1987 by Digger Howard, Cathy Chase and S.E. Mayo. Digger Howard owned the association until he sold it to Tim & Whitney McCright in July 2005. In September of 2021, the association was acquired by Teton Ridge, LLC.
